Informa Connect hosted the Decommissioning Offshore Infrastructure Conference in Perth in October 2023. The conference focussed on "meeting the challenge of spending billions by 2050 to remediate offshore assets," which brought to attention the industry's pressing challenges. MCC, represented by Rean Gilbert, General Manager of MCC Sustainable Futures, actively chaired panel discussions on the circular economy and environmental impacts.

The MCC/ATTERIS presentation focussed on understanding the timeframe in which the degradation of offshore infrastructure happens, the environmental impacts of infrastructure degradation, the use of comparative environmental impact assessment (CEIA) to inform decision-making, lessons learnt from degradation studies performed to date and applying lessons learnt to future (renewable) projects.

The complexity of assessing material degradation and environmental impacts demands expertise and a deep understanding of regulatory requirements. MCC ensures high-quality decommissioning studies, extending far beyond drafting Environment Plans (EP’s) and Oil Pollution Emergency Plans (OPEP’s) and Oil Spill Contingency Plans (OSCP’s).
